Meatloaf a Traditional Comfort Food

Meatloaf is a traditional dish of ground meat. The ground meat is combined with other ingredients and formed into the shape of a loaf and then baked. The traditional meatloaf found in the American diet is made from ground beef, eggs, seasonings and bread crumbs. Meatloaf is a great way to stretch the budget using inexpensive ground meat and left over ingredients. Meatloaf can be served plain or with a sauce poured over the top. Common meatloaf sauces include: tomato sauce, brown gravy, ketchup, or even a can of cream of mushroom soup.

In Austria it is traditionally served with ham wrapped on top. The ham is added just before baked. In Bulgaria, it is not unusual to find a hard boiled egg, chopped carrots or pickles in the middle. In Denmark the meatloaf is traditionally a mixture of pork and beef with strips of bacon on time. In Indonesia meatloaf is commonly seasoning with soy sauce. In Mexico meatloaf is know as “albondigon” and is a sized loaf.
