Portion Control Guide of Common Foods
Breads/ Cereals/Grains/ Starchy Sides:
1 serving
= ½ c. rice, pasta, potato, hot cooked cereal
= 3/4 c. dry cereal
= 4” diameter pancake
= 2 inch diameter biscuit or roll
= 2 inch square cornbread
= 1 slice regular bread
= 5 crackers
Vegetables:
1 serving
= 1c. Raw vegetable
= ½ c. cooked vegetable
= ½ c. vegetable juice
= 2 T. dried fruit
Fruits:
1 serving
= ½ c. 100 percent fruit juice
= ½ c. canned, drained fruit
= ½ c. -1 1/2c. fruit
= 1 small banana (approx. 6 inches) or ½ large
= ½ grapefruit, 10-15 grapes
= 1 small apple, orange, peach, pear (tennis ball)
Meats:
1 oz. = 1 serving meat
Breakfast =1 oz., Lunch=2 oz. Dinner= 3 oz. Edible portions. Please note bone, sauce, broth, gravy, skin etc is not part of the edible portion. Check the menu for Portion sizes with sauces, gravies etc.

Breakfast 1 oz. or ¼ cup, Lunch 2 oz. or 1/3 cup, Dinner 3 oz. or ½ cup
Other Protein Sources: Peanut butter 2T.

1 c. = 1 serving milk or yogurt 2 oz. processed cheese
