Basic Pie Dough

Portion Size: 1 slice 

Ingredients: Yields: 8 servings

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup shortening or butter
2 Tablespoons chilled margarine or butter
4 Tablespoons water
For gluten free (GF): Use GF all purpose flour. Always check each ingredient to be sure it is gluten free.

1Sift together flour and salt.
2Measure and combine shortening and margarine.
3Cut half of the shortening into the flour mixture with a pastry blender, or work it in lightly with tips of your finger until it has the grain of cornmeal.
4Cut the remaining half coarsely into the dough until it is pea size.
5Sprinkle the dough with water.
6Blend the water lightly into the dough.
7You may lift the ingredients with a fork, allowing the moisture to spread.
8If you need to hold the ingredients together, add 1 to teaspoon to 1 tablespoon water.
9Makes two nine inch pie crusts.Keep dough refrigerated until ready for use.
