Pasta and Italian Sausage in a Creamy Basil Tomato Sauce

Portion Size: ½ cup sauce and ½ c. pasta

Ingredients Notes: 
2 1/2 Pounds lean Sweet Italian Sausage linksUse bulk for texture modified diets. No tough skin. 
1 Teaspoon garlic powder 
3/4 Teaspoon salt 
1/8 Teaspoon pepper
4 Cups low sodium tomato sauce
2  Teaspoons basil 
2 (8 oz.) light cream cheese
1 Teaspoon oregano
1 Pound  pastaMay use whole wheat pasta
¼ cup Grated  Parmesan cheese

1Prepare pasta according to directions on the package.
2Sauté ground Italian sausage links in a medium size sauce pan until brown on all sides. Remove and slice into thin slices. Drain grease.
3Add garlic powder, salt, pepper, basil, oregano, and tomato sauce. Simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. Add cream cheese and stir until melted. Cook until internal temperature reaches 165 F degrees for 15 seconds
4Serve pasta on a hot platter.
5First a layer of pasta, then a layer of sauce.
6Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
