Pasta and Italian Sausage in a Creamy Basil Tomato Sauce
Portion Size: ½ cup sauce and ½ c. pasta

| 2 1/2 Pounds lean Sweet Italian Sausage links | Use bulk for texture modified diets. No tough skin. |
| 1 Teaspoon garlic powder | |
| 3/4 Teaspoon salt | |
| 1/8 Teaspoon pepper | |
| 4 Cups low sodium tomato sauce | |
| 2 Teaspoons basil | |
| 2 (8 oz.) light cream cheese | |
| 1 Teaspoon oregano | |
| 1 Pound pasta | May use whole wheat pasta |
| ¼ cup Grated Parmesan cheese |

| 1 | Prepare pasta according to directions on the package. | |
| 2 | Sauté ground Italian sausage links in a medium size sauce pan until brown on all sides. Remove and slice into thin slices. Drain grease. | |
| 3 | Add garlic powder, salt, pepper, basil, oregano, and tomato sauce. Simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. Add cream cheese and stir until melted. | Cook until internal temperature reaches 165 F degrees for 15 seconds |
| 4 | Serve pasta on a hot platter. | |
