Pasta with Creamy Tomato Basil Meat Sauce (meatless)

Portion Size: 1 cup 

Ingredients: Yields: 8 servings

Ingredients Notes: 
2 1/2 pounds imitation beef crumbles
1 large chopped onion Wash, peel and slice
1 teaspoon garlic powder 
1 teaspoon salt 
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 cups canned low sodium tomato sauce
2 ( 8oz.) light cream cheese. For vegan: use vegan cream cheese
1 tablespoon basil 
1 teaspoon oregano
1 pound  pasta For vegan: use vegan pasta
Grated Parmesan cheese For vegan: use vegan Parmesan

1Prepare pasta according to directions on the package.
2Sauté onion in a medium size sauce pan.
3Add garlic powder, salt, pepper, basil, oregano, imitation  meat, and tomato sauce.
4Simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. Stir in cream cheese and heat until heated through.Cook until internal temperature reaches 165 F degrees for 15 seconds
5Serve the pasta on a hot platter.
6First a layer of pasta, then a layer of sauce.
7Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
