Ham Hocks and Beans

Portion Size: 1 cup (3 oz. meat, ½ cup beans) 

Ingredients: Yields: 8 servings

Ingredients Notes: 
2 pounds lean ham, dicedTrim all visible fat
1 Ham hock bone
2 large cans no added salt pinto beansRinsed and drained
½ cup onionWashed, trimmed and chopped
4 cups water 
1 teaspoon pepper
3 bay leaves
1 teaspoon garlic powderOr 2 cloves, minced

1In a large stock pot add ham bone, bay leaves, beans, onion and garlic.
2Bring to a boil.
3Reduce heat, cover, and cook over low heat for 1 hour.
4Remove bone and bay leaves.  Add ham and beans.
5Heat through.Cook until internal temperature reaches 165°F for 15 seconds.
