| 2/3 cups sugar | |
| 2 tablespoons minced garlic | |
| 2 tablespoons light soy sauce | |
| Dash of cayenne pepper | Or more if you like spicy |
| ¼ cup sambal oelek | (spicy Southeast Asian chili sauce) |

| 1 | In a small bowl, combine water and cornstarch; set aside. | |

| 3 | Add rice vinegar, cornstarch mixture, sugar, garlic, soy sauce, cayenne pepper ; cook and stir over moderate heat thick and bubbly, about 10 minutes. | |
